Every day i drive Twenty miles to work and twenty miles home, most of it on a motorway.

At about half way ish, there’s a bridge with complementary graffiti each way. For years i was greeted with the words ” I LOVE YOU KERRY MCKENNA” , ” I MISS YOU LOADS KERRY MCKENNA” going to and from work. That was for about ten years or so. With thousands of people driving under that bridge, they all know that Kerry Mckenna was loved and missed by someone. Yes it was creepy and stalkery but that’s not what this post is about. (But honestly, storytellers really need to stop selling this shit as romantic. It’s not!) But there it was for all to see, everyday on their commute to and from work.

But then a few years ago someone decided to “deal” with the graffiti. Their idea of dealing with it was not to properly clean it off but to paint over it. And here’s the kicker part… They only painted over the name… and they didn’t paint over it very well. So now you see “I MISS YOU LOADS … Block of paint” and vice versa . Something else weird is that the side of the bridge with ” I miss you…” is now starting to fade and come off, but the side with “I love you…” is still as clear as the day it was painted.

It’s as if all the rain and wind and paint (where you can still sort of see Kerry’s name under the “blotting out” paint) simply can’t erase words of love.

Love is indelible.

That’s what the M65 graffiti reminds me of every day. Love leaves inescapable marks on your life. Love cannot ever be wiped out, erased or successfully covered over. Unconditional Love is always, always there whether you feel it, acknowledge it, ignore it or not. Like a hound it will track you through your life and never, ever, let you go.

Love is indelible.

If you have shared love with someone, regardless of how things stand between you right now, nothing can change the fact of that love. NOTHING.

Love is indelible.

If you have shown love to someone, in whatever way, they will be able to carry that like a tattoo (or graffiti) of blessing through their lives. This is one of the main reasons why even the smallest act of kindness is sometimes the most important thing you can do.

Love is indelible.

If you can pour just one shot of love into someone’s life, they will carry it with them forever; it might even save their life one day.

And I want you to know, really know, that nothing you can do, no amount of indifference or ignoring or running away, no amount of cruelty or betrayal or abandonment can wipe one ounce of love from the heart of someone who loves you unconditionally. Although the hurt caused may damage the relationship beyond repair or else require some hard repentance & reparation on your part, it can never truly wipe away that kernel of love. And friends, that is true of both people and of God.

Love is indelible.

And God’s unconditional, indelible love is here. For you. Always.
